FOOL’S PARADISE
Luminescent and shimmering, Fool’s Paradise marked the first of Wheeldon’s many collaborations with composer Joby Talbot. It was created in 2007 for Wheeldon’s own company, Morphoses, and first performed in 2012 by The Royal Ballet.

THE TWO OF US
The wistful songs of Joni Mitchell set the scene for the UK premiere of The Two of Us, a duet of deep intimacy and yearning. It was created in 2020 for the Fall for Dance Festival in New York, and had American ballet dancers Sarah Mearns and David Hallberg in its original cast.

US (DUET)
Us is a tender duet danced by two men. It was created in 2017 for BalletBoyz and is set to Keaten Henson’s music.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (BALLET)
The Royal Ballet celebrates Wheeldon’s extraordinary success in musical theatre by performing the ballet scene from his Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris. Set to Gershwin’s jazzy melodies, the musical is inspired by the 1951 film of the same name starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. The musical went on to win four Tony awards. The full musical depicts a blossoming romance between the American G.I. Jerry Mulligan and a French ballerina, Lise Dassin. The ballet excerpt was Wheeldon’s take on one of the most memorable scenes from the film – an extended sequence in which the two central characters dance through Paris.

Please note this a screening of a live performance taking place at The Royal Opera House.

Two lads. Twelve hours. One million pounds.

On the wet West Cumbrian coast, James and Kamran have been mates for more than a decade. At seventeen, the world should be theirs but Workington’s a ghost town – an unemployment blackspot where lasses drink Bacardi by the pint and boys don’t cry.

When James discovers he is heir to a single mile of the British railway system, the lads are forced on a town-wide treasure hunt where annihilated aunties, Snakebite-drenched drag queens and a zombie Princess Diana lay in wait. But who rightfully owns the mile of steel? Why is Kamran in such a strop? And what really happens in the pub down by the docks?

In a town once rich with coal seams and ore, with community and carnivals, with sea air and ale, James and Kamran are fed up with feeling different – tonight they’re painting the town technicolour and asking what it means to be a man in a play about first loves, forging identities and the wild, wild hearts of teenage boys.

Rock of Ages

Presented by Beverley Musical Theatre.

It is 1987 and the fabled West Hollywood club the Bourbon Room is the seedy, sordid, vibrant heart of the Sunset Strip. The music venue has seen better days but is run by chilled-out former rock impresario Dennis Dupree and tended to by Dennis’s assistant Lonny, it is the essence of rock and roll. When bright-eyed young hopeful Sherrie, a small-town girl hoping to make it as an actress, arrives in town, she bumps into Drew, a Bourbon Room busboy with dreams of rock and roll stardom.

Love-struck Drew convinces Dennis to hire Sherrie, and the stage seems set for romance. But when the Mayor of West Hollywood, persuaded by a couple of scheming German real estate developers, announces his intention to demolish the Bourbon Room and the entire Sunset Strip, the stakes are raised.

Dennis convinces rock god Stacee Jaxx, lead singer of megaband Arsenal, to play the band’s last show at the Bourbon Room, hopeful that the money raised will stop the building from being demolished. But Stacee, a man of massive charisma and equally massive ego, leaves chaos in his wake. In the midst of violent anti-demolition protests, Sherrie, sacked by Dennis, ends up in a nearby strip club and Drew is persuaded to join a boy band. Who can save the Bourbon Room, the young lovers, and the feuding Germans? Only Lonny knows for sure.

Rock of Ages is a big, brash, energetic tribute to classic rock, over-the-top ballads and fierce guitar, combined with the gritty glamour and rough energy of the Sunset Strip. This jukebox musical features ‘80s hits such as “We Built this City”, “I Wanna Rock”, “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “ I’ve Been Waitin’ For A Girl Like You” and is brought to you by the team that graced the Hull Truck stage last summer with the spectacularly successful “Kinky Boots".

Join young Oliver Twist on the adventure of a lifetime in this festive adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel.

Born into a life of poverty, raised in a workhouse and sold into an apprenticeship, Oliver escapes to London where he is befriended by the charismatic Artful Dodger and recruited into Fagin’s band of pickpockets and thieves.

After sinking into the grimy criminal underworld, Oliver is presented with an opportunity to change his fate… but will this be his chance to finally find a loving family and a place to call home?

Jam packed with songs and dance, including traditional much-loved carols, folk tunes and original music, Deborah McAndrew’s dramatic and highly theatrical adaptation returns to Hull Truck Theatre in another enchanting and mesmerising production.

The perfect alternative to pantomime over the holidays, magically captivating audiences of all ages.

Coral is a friendly, fun and inquisitive little mermaid… but she’s a mermaid with a problem. Whilst she loves nothing more than nattering away with her family and closest pal Finn the fish, when it comes to talking to new people… something strange happens… she completely clams up.

But can a chance meeting with a human from the above the waves bring Coral out of her shell? Or will she fall hook, line and sinker for the sea witch’s trickery and never find her voice?
