Crewe Lyceum Theatre is your place in Cheshire to experience quality entertainment, spectacular surroundings and delicious food and drink. Thrilling audiences since 1911, Crewe Lyceum is Cheshire’s landmark Edwardian theatre. Originally built on the site of a disused Roman Catholic Chapel in 1881, the theatre has had many famous names grace its stage including silent movie stars Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel. On March 11th 1910, a fire broke out which completely destroyed the original theatre. Thankfully, the theatre was triumphantly rebuilt and opened the following year to the design of Scottish architect Mr Albert Winstanley featuring the beautiful Edwardian auditorium we still have today. In the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s the theatre saw the Circus take to the stage and people regularly lined the street to watch the spectacle of the circus animals parading their way to the Lyceum. From the 1950’s onwards the Lyceum hosted everything from amateur shows to the wrestling and circus’. Today, Crewe Lyceum Theatre hosts a wide variety of performances including comedians, music tributes, dramas, ballets, operas, pantomime and more. With an in-house chef, you can also enjoy a delicious meal in our Lyceum Restaurant before you sit back with an evening of spectacular entertainment. Well known as one of the most haunted buildings in Cheshire, Crewe Lyceum holds regular ghost hunts to investigate the supernatural beings that lurk in the dark and search for the five reported ghosts that dwell there.
