Blues-Rock’s Resilient Icon Walter Trout is riding a creatively formidable wave and heading into 2024 with an album raucous, wild and poignant in Broken.

All of us are broken. But no one is beyond repair. It's a philosophy that Walter Trout has lived by during seven volatile decades at the heart of America's society and blues-rock scene. Even now, with the world more fractured than ever – by politics, economics, social media and culture wars – the fabled US bluesman's latest album, Broken, chronicles the bitter schisms of modern life but refuses to succumb to them.

For the last half-century, however rocky his path, hope and resilience has always lit the way. The beat of Trout's unbelievable story are well-known: the traumatic childhood in Ocean City, New Jersey; the audacious move to the West Coast in '74; the auspicious but chaotic sideman shifts with John Lee Hooker and Big Mama Thornton; the raging addictions that somehow never stopped the boogie when he was with Canned Heat in the early-'80s.

With gallows humour, Trout notes that his new album opens with a track called Broken and ends with one called Falls Apart. He can't deny the link between the personal and the socio-political mood in the air, and as such, between those two bookends lie some of the most raw and bruised songs of his career. After the huge, sell-out success of A FISTFUL OF CLARY last year, the renowned homosexual is fixing to saddle up and head out once again.

"God Dammit, there are some one horse towns we missed last time! Now I’m coming up your way, like it or not!" he shouts with gay abandon.

“Yes, it still has a Western theme,” the old buckaroo confirms, sipping Bourbon from a pint tankard. “It was only a matter of time before I eased myself into some chaps once again. Old habits die hard” he adds, dabbing his temples with a damp flannel.

The Chineke! Chamber Ensemble present Wynton Marsalis' modern reinterpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s 1918 masterpiece, A Soldier's Story (L’Historie du soldat).

The beauty, intimacy and creativity of the duo comes to the fore in this exquisite combination of singer Sara Colman and pianist Rebecca Nash, performing a diverse programme this lunchtime.
Their long-standing relationship has honed a musical intuition that produces the misleadingly easy sounding but musically adventurous story telling of all good singer-musician relationships.

During the summer of 2020, when the world was turned upside down, they took up residence in a house in the forest for ten days with only each other and some chickens for company and set about writing music.

Bella Hardy, the voice of modern folk, established her reputation as a songwriter when her first original composition Three Black Feathers earned a BBC Folk Award nomination in 2008.
Bella has since become a regular on radio and television, notably singing solo in a sold-out Albert Hall at the Proms. She’s written and recorded with everyone from Beautiful South founder David Rotheray to folk luminary Eliza Carthy, and performed with the great Mary Chapin Carpenter on her UK tours. She learnt the songs of Chinese farmers during her time as British Council Musician in Residence in Yunnan Province, spent a year in Tennessee as a ranch hand, and sat on the moors of her beloved Peak District with only her fiddle for company.

Growing up Billie was surrounded by the music of Nick Drake, John Martyn, Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading, Kate Bush and Loudon Wainwright III, amongst others.
In 2016, aged just 17, she was nominated for the BBC Sound of 2016 and the same year released her critically acclaimed debut album, Writing of Blues and Yellows, an open-hearted collection of quietly beautiful songs.

Her 2019 follow-up, Feeding Seahorses By Hand, was described by The Line of Best Fit as a "gentle and reserved masterpiece". Towards the end of 2019, Billie signed to Fiction records, a division of Universal, and then went back into the studio and reunited with producer Rich Cooper. Billie felt empowered to experiment and rediscover herself.

Since then, she has toured frequently, returning home to record her fourth record Drop Cherries. Her writing explores social commentary, the struggle with modernity vs tradition, nature, mental health, relationships, and a general voyeurism on the world as she sees it.

These days, every artist’s album needs to have a story. The music can’t speak for itself.
But after 22 records, why can’t Ani DiFranco’s work speak for itself? Yes, her forthcoming album is shaped by stories — ones about reproductive freedom, the double-edged sword of the pandemic, identity and ever-evolving belief systems that have shaped each of its 11 songs. There are songs that were written in 2011 and in 2022; some for musicals, others for children’s books. The album isn’t linear, but it is inherently teeming with DiFranco’s spirit.

Level 42 are delighted to announce that they will embark upon The World Machine Anniversary Tour in 2025, which will visit 28 UK venues.
All of the shows will feature Special Guests Roachford. The tour will celebrate this landmark – and indeed breakthrough – album for Level 42, and the band will also, of course, be breaking out many of their classic era-defining hits.

‘World Machine’ was the album that changed everything for Level 42, and set them on the path to true super-stardom. Released in 1985, it was a hit both here and in the States, and has now been certified double Platinum. It was on this album, the band’s sixth, that arguably they nailed down the sound and the style that made them one of the biggest groups in the world. On this album they refined the funky pop fusion that had grown from their jazz roots - and had already brought them serious success - and truly made it their own. ‘World Machine’ features the singles ‘Something About You’ (the band's only American top 10 hit) and ‘Leaving Me Now’, and it showed the band’s progression in style and confidence that would lead to their massive ‘Running In The Family’ album the following year.
