King George’s Hall is an arts venue located on Northgate in Blackburn. The building contains three performance spaces: The Concert Hall (capacity 1800), the Windsor Suite (capacity 750) and Blakey’s Café Bar (capacity 500). It hosts a number of cultural events, including comedy shows, classical music concerts, art exhibitions, family shows and popular music concerts.

The plans for King George’s Hall were originally laid out in 1905 but went through many council meetings before being accepted in 1910. The first foundation stone was laid by King George V during his visit to Blackburn on 10th July 1913; the theatre was subsequently named in his honour. Despite the initial construction taking place, the venue wasn’t complete when the building stopped in 1914 on account of the outbreak of war. During the First World War, the King George’s Hall was used as a Red Cross Hospital. The building was finally completed in 1921, sixteen years after the first plans were laid out. It is now a Grade II listed-building.

In recent times, the King George’s Hall presents an eclectic range of cultural events, as well as acting as Blackburn’s registry office for weddings.
