On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson Winner of the Drama Desk Award, the Tony and an Oscar for Best Writing for the 1981 film version, Ernest Thompson’s ON GOLDEN POND is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer. Returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty eighth year, they are visited by their estranged daughter Chelsea, her dentist fiancé Bill Ray, and his teenage son Billy. Having planned a trip to Europe with her fiancé, Chelsea hopes to leave the teenager with her parents for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the grandchild they have longed for, as Norman and Billy bond over books and fishing. But upon Chelsea’s return, their new friendship merely highlights the already strained relationship between Chelsea and her own father. In the advent of Norman’s 80th birthday and his failing health, Ethel encourages Chelsea to mend fences with her father before it’s too late. The Kids Left. The Dog Died. Now What? is a musical comedy saluting those valiantly struggling with divorce on their hands, gravity on their bodies, grandchildren on their self-images and the dating scene on their egos. This entertaining musical about those facing a host of midlife crises takes a humorous and heartfelt look at the day-to-day concerns of the over-fifty “empty-nester” crowd. The risks and uncertainties of being alive come alive through song and scene. Ageing gracefully is the final frontier! BROS Theatre Company is one of South West London’s premier non-professional societies. We pride ourselves on creating shows that stand alongside professional productions at venues such as Richmond Theatre and The Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Our regular visits to Hampton Hill Theatre allow us to stretch our creative wings and put on shows that regularly win both Arts Richmond and NODA London awards. “Carole Caplan Lonner's The Kids Left. The Dog Died. Now What? is just plain fun! Its target audience is clear, and those of us who are empty-nesters know exactly what she is talking about!” - Stage Door Magazine This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk

Supported by the Royal Institute of Philosophy “Love” is an ambiguous word. We can use it in relatively trivial contexts – such as when we say “I love this sandwich” or “I love 80s hip-hop” – to simply mean that we strongly like something. Or we can use it to express some of the most profound feelings of connection and commitment which humans are capable of – such as when we say “I love you” to our spouses and family members.Often, environmental writers, activists, and campaigners talk about their deep love for nature. But what do we mean when we say that welove nature? Is this more analogous to loving sandwiches, or to loving friends and family? Can our love for nature be reciprocal, or is it more like the unrequited love which a teenager has for their celebrity crush? And is our love for nature rational, or – like the case of the woman who married the Berlin Wall – is “nature” an inappropriate object for our feelings of love?Neil is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Southampton. He is an interdisciplinary philosopher, specialising in environmental philosophy, moral and political philosophy, and the history of philosophy. The different strands of his research are linked by an interest in the ways our emotional natures shape our beliefs and practices. His current projects – funded by the AHRC and British Academy – explore the philosophical foundations of the “rights of nature” movement. They focus on how this movement might both empower local communities and challenge our exploitative relationships with the natural world.free places available to those unable to pay

RG Productions presents direct from Chicago the Joseph Jefferson Best Actor Award winning production BEING SEEN by Richard Gustin starring Kelly Anne Clark and 14-time Midwest Emmy winner Will Clinger. European premiere. An actor answers an audition notice and encounters a highly acclaimed director who is perhaps more than they can handle. Wits and instincts collide as the actor maneuvers through the web of the director's process. A fast-paced comedy with a dark underbelly.“Exhilarating theatre, brilliantly scripted. . .simultaneously comedic and thought-provoking.”Hy Bender – New York “There are two excellent reasons to recommend this production: Will Clinger and Kelly Anne Clark. Actually, Clark is so good that she counts double.”~ Kerry Reid – Chicago’s Reader“Being Seen is a twisted comedy. . .wickedly smart. . .the conversations are genius. . .never a dull moment. . .the storytelling is sharp and precise.”~NY Theatre in The Now “90 minutes of pure theatre magic.” ~ Al Bresloff “Around The Town Chicago”“For those who love theater, “Being Seen” is a delicious window into the heart of the actors’ world . . . tension and humor that at its best moments reminded me of Tom Stoppard, with notes of Pinter. ~ Bill Esler – Buzz Center Chicago “It's a timely piece, especially relevant in our current era of gig workers, toxic politicians, and cancel culture. This delightfully insidious production brings abuse of power to light with equal parts horror and hilarity.”~ Bonnie Kenaz-Mara – ChicagoDirected by Richard Gustin Stage Management Lydia LaGueMale Understudy: Micheal Stafford WellsFemale Understudy: Serena BunnAge Guidance: 15+

A dark Victorian thriller by celebrated crime writer Simon Brett.‘Books are good enough in their own way, but they are a mighty bloodless substitute for life.’ Robert Louis Stevenson’s words have a particular resonance for Francis Kenworthy, a man who has always taken refuge in books to escape from the brutalities of everyday life and of his Victorian upbringing, until forced to face reality. In this taut psychological thriller, a violent outcome is tragically inevitable. Tim Hardy returns to OSO Arts Centre following his solo show “The Trials of Galileo” in spring 2024.‘absolutely spellbinding’ ????1/2 Bouquets & Brickbats

Parents Bob and Fran have worked their fingers to the bone and with their four children grown and ready to fly the nest it might be time to relax and enjoy the roses. But the changing seasons bring home some shattering truths, leaving us asking whether it’s possible to love too much. As beautifully touching as it is funny and bold, Things I Know To Be True tells the story of a family through the eyes of four grown siblings. Each struggle to define themselves beyond their parents’ love and expectations. It is a complex and intense study of the mechanics of a family that is both poetic and brutally frank. Things I Know To Be True first premiered in Adelaide, Australia, as a co-production between Frantic Assembly and the State Theatre Company of South Australia. OSO Artistic Director Lydia Sax (The Revlon Girl, Once Upon a Bridge, Sabbath) returns to direct the London revival of Andrew Bovell’s ‘gently magical’ (The Times) play, for the OSO's first ever in-house production. ????? ‘A thing of beauty. Book a special discounted ticket for both below. One man, his piano and their miraculous survival. All future, freedom and success lay ahead of young pianist Stephen de Bastion in 1930s Hungary. Life whirled headily around cocktails, romance, applause and the buzz of Budapest late into the night. Then, 1939. Stephen's world disintegrates and this becomes a story of his brutal descent, of his time in labour camps, of Mauthausen and Gunskirchen and the unimaginable horrors he endured during the Holocaust as a man of Jewish descent. Yet, this is also a tale of extraordinary escape ... and the piano, waiting for him.The same piano that Roxanne de Bastion, his granddaughter, inherits when her father dies. It has been in the family over one hundred years but it is only when, deep in grief, she discovers a cassette recording of Stephen, that the astonishing history of the piano, the man and her family begins to unravel. Weaving together his original recordings, unpublished memoirs, letters and documents, Roxanne sings out her grandfather's story of music and hope, lost and found. Luminous and profoundly moving, this book captures the great spirit of one man in the face of darkness and the hope that echoes down through generations.
