Mon to Fri, 8am-4pm

In our street-level coffee shop, you'll find fresh, seasonal sandwiches, soup, hot-pots, quiches and salads – made on-site, by our skilled catering team.

Our coffee comes from Edinburgh-based speciality coffee roasters, Artisan Roast. We drink a lot of it, and we’re sure you’ll love it too.

Simple, good food – served with a smile downstairs in the Traverse Bar Café.

Great theatre sparks debate. After the curtain has fallen, pore-over our shows in the underground bar.

If you would like to use any of the following services, please let us know at time of booking. Call 0131 228 1404 or email boxoffice@traverse.co.uk, and make yourself known to the Front of House team on arrival, as they will be expecting you.

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES
Audio description is a way of communicating the visual elements of a production for visually impaired audience members. Information is relayed as a live commentary to a personal headset. These can be collected from a member of our Front of House team 30 minutes before the performance.

TOUCH TOURS
Touch tours give a guided tour of the stage set to visually impaired audience members prior to the start of an Audio Described performance.

SIGNED/BSL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES
An interpreter stands at the side of the stage and interprets dialogue, songs and sound effects for D/deaf audience members.

HEARING ENHANCEMENT
Hearing enhancement supplies amplified sound to a personal headset (please collect from a member of our Front of House team 30 minutes before the performance). This service is suitable for audience members with low to moderate hearing loss and can be used in conjunction with existing hearing aids.

CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES
The actors' words appear on a display unit (or units) placed on the set or next to the stage at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

RELAXED PERFORMANCES
Our Relaxed Performances are designed for audience members with a range of additional support needs, including autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities and anyone who may benefit from a more relaxed environment when visiting the theatre.

Some changes will be made to the presentation of the play and audience members can exit/enter the auditorium as they wish. For more details on how a production particular has been adapted for a relaxed performance, please contact a member of our Box Office team. Also, audience members can receive a free visual guide to the story before attending the performance.

If you would like to discuss any additional access requirements with our team, please don't hesitate to contact us on 0131 228 1404 or at boxoffice@traverse.co.uk

As Scotland’s new writing theatre, the Traverse Theatre is a dynamic centre for performance, experience and discovery, often referred to as Edinburgh’s ‘beating heart of the Fringe’ in August. Enabling people across society to access and engage with theatre is our fundamental mission.

Our year-round programme bursts with new stories and live performances that challenge, inform and entertain. We empower artists and audiences to make sense of the world today, providing a safe space to question, learn, empathise and – crucially – encounter different people and experiences. Conversation and the coming together of groups are central to a democratic society, and we champion equal expression and understanding.

We commission, produce and programme for existing and future audiences to offer new and exciting experiences for everyone, and our partnerships with other theatre companies and festivals enable us to present a wide range of innovative performances.

The Traverse would not exist without our over-arching passion for talent development and embracing the unexplored. We work with the newest and rawest talent – with an emphasis on the Scottish-based – nurturing it to become the art, artists and performances that can be seen on our stages through a variety of creative learning and literary programmes.

The timely, powerful stories that start life on our stages have global impact, resulting in dozens of tours, productions and translations. We are critically acclaimed and recognised the world over for our originality and artistic risk, which we hope will create some of the most talked-about plays, productions, directors, writers and actors for years to come.
